Suited to experienced 4x4 drivers with robust vehicles, this rough and rocky route connects the surfaced A8 between Bokong Nature Reserve and Katse Dam to the A1 between Afriski Mountain Resort and Mokhotlong.
Possibly the most extreme 4x4 route in Lesotho, it is only 60km long, but requires at least two hours to cover, and an early start is recommended in case of unexpected problems.
The rocky road is the ultimate 4x4 adventure and it will test both the driver’s off-road skills and the vehicle's mettle. It may become totally impassable in winter due to snow and black ice.
Highlights
The route incorporates the remote Tlaeeng Pass, which summits at 3,275 metres, making it the highest road in subequatorial Africa.

Once on the surfaced A1, you could continue northwest to Afriski Mountain Resort or southeast to Sani Top.
